Dimapur, August 29, 2025: A high-level meeting chaired by the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, Shri T.R. Zeliang, has culminated in a decisive resolution on the alignment of the crucial National Highway 702 (NH-702), which will connect Longleng, Longching, Mon, and Tizit.
The meeting, convened to settle the alignment contest between Option No. 1, Option No. 2, and Option No. 3, was attended by key stakeholders, including MLAs Shri Manpon Konyak, Shri Nyemnyei Konyak, and Shri Naiba Konyak; senior state government officials; representatives from NHIDCL; and the Inspector General of Assam Rifles (North) [IGAR (N)], Chairman of the Border Roads Network Action Plan (BRNAP). The Konyak Union (KU) also participated in the deliberations.
Following a comprehensive review of NHIDCL’s technical report, which strongly recommended Option No. 3, the participants reached a consensus to adopt this alignment as the most feasible and sustainable choice.
To ensure that no community is left disconnected, the Deputy Chief Minister directed IGAR (N), as BRNAP Chairman, to convene a special committee with BRO, NHIDCL, and PWD to recommend the 19-kilometer stretch bypassed by the new alignment for dedicated maintenance by the BRO.
Deputy CM T.R. Zeliang emphasized that the decision is a “win-win for progress and inclusivity.” He noted that adopting Option No. 3 ensures modern, robust road infrastructure, while entrusting the BRO with the upkeep of the bypassed road guarantees reliable connectivity for all villages.
He also appealed to the MLAs and the Konyak Union to communicate the rationale for this decision to local stakeholders, ensuring broad understanding and support for the timely execution of this vital infrastructure project.
The meeting concluded with a unanimous agreement to move forward with the plan. The finalization of NH-702 marks a pivotal step toward achieving seamless connectivity, regional development, and improved quality of life for the people of Nagaland.
