Dimapur | October 18, 2025 : The Department of Political Science and History, MGM College, on Saturday organized a panel discussion on the theme “Understanding the Inner Line Permit: Historical Background, Contemporary Relevance and Policy Perspectives in Nagaland.”

Held at the college auditorium, the event sought to deepen students’ understanding of the Inner Line Permit (ILP) and its role in Nagaland’s socio-political landscape.

The session began with an exhortation and welcome address by Dr. R.K. Behera, Principal of MGM College, who emphasized the need for young minds to develop informed and balanced perspectives on regional and national issues.

The panel comprised Fuchumo Yanthan (HoD, History), Elithang M. Kikon (HoD, Sociology), Tsutsamo (Educator, Mahendra’s Institute, Dimapur), and A. Kailang (Assistant Professor, Political Science). The discussion was moderated by N. David Phom, Assistant Professor, Department of History.

Panelists presented diverse viewpoints covering the historical origins, socio-economic impacts, and contemporary policy dimensions of the ILP system, addressing both its challenges and future prospects. The interactive Q&A session witnessed enthusiastic participation from students, reflecting their deep engagement and curiosity about the subject.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mrs. Sungjemlila Jamir, Head of the Department of Political Science, who expressed gratitude to the speakers and encouraged students to foster critical awareness while upholding values of national integration and unity in diversity.
