Dimapur, July 30, 2025 (Wednesday) – The Rising People’s Party (RPP) has issued a strong statement urging the Government of India’s interlocutor, A.K. Mishra, to refrain from making unilateral moves regarding the Naga political issue, describing his recent actions as “putting the cart before the horse.”
In a press release issued on Wednesday, July 30, the party questioned the current relevance and status of the “Framework Agreement” and the “Agreed Position,” both of which were key documents in earlier negotiations. The RPP demanded clarity from Mr. Mishra, asking whether these agreements are still active and whether he has managed to bring all conflicting Naga factions to the table for a final settlement. If such progress has indeed been made, the party pressed for a clear timeline to be shared with the public.
RPP expressed concern over what it termed as a “constant shifting of goalposts” and appealed to Mr. Mishra to “take a break,” emphasizing that the ongoing Naga-led effort at internal unity should take priority over externally driven initiatives.
The party also took a direct swipe at the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) formed by the NDPP-BJP-led coalition government, calling for its immediate disbandment. According to the RPP, the PAC serves no practical purpose and only helps project an image that the state government is actively addressing the Naga political issue, which the party claims is misleading.
RPP further criticized what it described as “self-serving leaders” who are more concerned with personal legacy and political survival than with the broader Naga interest. The party suggested that such leaders have failed to grasp the political signals from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, whose government, according to RPP, “respects strength and unity.”
“The Nagas can demonstrate strength by presenting a united front,” the party stated, while cautioning that the same Prime Minister who respects unity could also show “disdain” toward division. The party urged all stakeholders to recognize this reality.
Concluding its statement, the RPP warned against pursuing individual or factional interests at the cost of Naga unity, stating that such actions could result in being remembered as “puppets and traitors” in the eyes of history.
The Rising People’s Party’s statement underscores growing concerns among regional stakeholders over the direction and transparency of the ongoing Naga peace process.
