Dimapur, October 29: The National Socialist Council of Nagalim (NSCN)/Federal Republic Government of Nagaland (FRGN) has issued a clarification on its October 23 order, stating that the 30-day deadline for eradicating drug-related activities and prostitution in Naga-inhabited areas was inadvertently placed under Point No. 4 instead of Point No. 3 in the earlier order.

In a clarification issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity on October 29, the NSCN/FRGN stated that the deadline was intended to appear under Point No. 3 of the original order.

The clarification also elaborated on the objective of Point No. 4, stating that the initiative primarily aims to promote the growth, development and advancement of Naga youth by creating better opportunities for their future.

The NSCN/FRGN said the order addresses concerns regarding undocumented immigrants, whom it described as illegal Bangladeshi nationals, residing in towns and Naga villages and engaging in business and farming activities.

According to the statement, the issue extends beyond business competition and involves economic stability, employment opportunities, cultural identity, social harmony, public services and the protection of indigenous rights. It also cited concerns over population changes, resource management and the preservation of Naga traditions, customs and identity.

The organisation maintained that the initiative seeks to safeguard Naga businesses, strengthen indigenous entrepreneurship and create a secure and sustainable future for the next generation, while calling for solutions that uphold the rule of law, fairness and the well-being of Naga society.

Responding to the Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI), the NSCN/FRGN described the chamber as a respected partner in the state’s economic development and said it valued its contribution.

However, it maintained that the initiative was intended to promote local entrepreneurship, self-employment and self-reliance among Naga youth, particularly educated unemployed youth who, it said, were compelled to migrate due to limited opportunities.

The statement further alleged that revenue generated by businesses operated by undocumented immigrants in towns and village council areas was not reinvested locally. It argued that businesses operating in Naga-inhabited areas should therefore be scrutinised.

The NSCN/FRGN expressed hope that the CNCCI would understand its position and continue working towards an economy that promotes local self-reliance and commercial harmony.

The clarification comes amid concerns raised by the business community over the organisation’s earlier directives concerning Sunday shop closures and restrictions on non-local businesses.
