October 3: The National Socialist Council of Nagaland/Federal Republic Government of Nagaland (NSCN/FRGN) has declared Kikheto Chishi as the President of the organisation and Richard Naga Chakesang as its Vice-President, with the leadership arrangement taking effect from October 2, 2026.
In a press statement issued by its Ministry of Information and Publicity, the NSCN/FRGN said the declaration was unanimously made by its members and would remain in force until further notice through a formal resolution. Until a new Central Executive is elected and further notice is issued, the organisation’s executive, political, financial and military powers will rest with the President, in consultation with the Vice-President.
The statement also outlined the historical background of the Naga political movement, tracing its development from the formation of the Naga Club in 1918 and the submission of the Naga memorandum to the Simon Commission in 1929 to the formation of the Naga National Council (NNC) and subsequent developments in the movement.
Reflecting on the prolonged political conflict and divisions among Naga groups, the organisation called for unity among the Naga people and urged the youth to study their history through historical documents, books and constitutional principles rather than relying solely on rumours, social media narratives or political rhetoric.
The NSCN/FRGN also appealed to church leaders to pray for Naga and Indian leaders, urging them to pursue dialogue, peace and understanding. It stated that the Naga political aspiration should be pursued through peaceful and legitimate means, while emphasising the importance of protecting Naga identity, culture and land.
Reaffirming its position, the organisation said its objective was to pursue the right to self-determination and a political future determined by the Naga people, while calling for unity and an end to violence.
