Kohima, 20th October 2025: In a significant boost to Nagaland’s legal infrastructure, the Ministry of Law and Justice has doubled the state’s quota of Notary Publics from 200 to 400.
According to an official notification issued by the Department of Legal Affairs, the increase—effective from October 17—was made through an amendment to the Notaries Rules, 1956.
The move follows a series of representations made by Y. Kikheto Sema during his tenure as Principal Secretary for Law and Justice to Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal in New Delhi.

The increase will help ensure better access to notarial services across all districts, especially in rural and remote areas of Nagaland.
