The Dimapur Naga Students’ Union (DNSU) has expressed serious concern over the potential influx of illegal immigrants into Nagaland, following eviction drives in neighboring Assam. In a strongly worded press release issued today, the student body warned that unregulated movement of displaced individuals through the porous Nagaland-Assam border could pose a significant threat to the demographic balance, security, and socio-political stability of the state. The DNSU pointed out that the long and vulnerable borders Nagaland shares with Assam—particularly in districts such as Dimapur—are at high risk of infiltration by undocumented migrants. The union emphasized that such movement could have long-term implications for local communities.Calling for urgent action, the DNSU urged the Government of Nagaland to boost border security by deploying additional personnel and enhancing surveillance at key transit points like the Dimapur railway station and other border entryways. These locations, they stated, are especially susceptible to unauthorized entry and could serve as critical transit hubs for illegal migration. In addition to government intervention, the DNSU appealed to its subordinate units, local councils, and youth bodies to remain vigilant and proactive. Unit leaders have been asked to monitor their areas closely and work in coordination with law enforcement agencies to report any suspicious movement or settlement patterns. The union also issued a public advisory, calling on residents of Nagaland to stay alert and report any unfamiliar individuals or groups lacking proper documentation in their localities. They emphasized the collective responsibility of all citizens in safeguarding the rights and identity of the indigenous Naga people.”The DNSU reiterates its steadfast commitment to defend the interests of the Naga people,” the statement read, adding that the union is prepared to assist both the administration and law enforcement agencies, should the need arise.Signed by R. Michael Yanthan, Vice President, and Rukwezo Wetsah, Assistant General Secretary, the DNSU’s press release underscores the growing concern within civil society over demographic challenges stemming from migration issues along state borders.
