Dimapur, August 20, 2025: The Confederation of Nagaland Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CNCCI), aligning with the recent demand of the Naga Students’ Federation (NSF), strongly urges the State Government to introduce and enforce a Landlord–Tenant Registration System in Nagaland without delay.

CNCCI highlights that in the absence of such a system, anti-social and unscrupulous individuals have repeatedly misused rented properties. There have been several cases where:

  • Individuals posing as businessmen rented residential premises under false pretenses, later engaging in illegal and unethical activities, thereby tarnishing the image of the genuine business community.
  • Fraudsters rented shops and commercial establishments, promising genuine businesses. After winning the trust of customers, they absconded with large sums of advance payments, with losses in some cases running into multiple crores.

Such incidents are further compounded by the lack of proper documentation or verifiable records, making it extremely difficult for victims to lodge complaints or for authorities to trace and prosecute the culprits.

“These repeated frauds not only damage the credibility of Nagaland’s business community but also cause irreparable financial and emotional harm to innocent citizens,” CNCCI stated.

The Confederation therefore appeals to the State Government to act immediately in the interest of public safety and business integrity by implementing a Landlord–Tenant Registration System across Nagaland.
