Aotula T. Imchen, IPS, Assumes Office as Commissioner of Police, Dimapur

Aotula T. Imchen, IPS, formally assumed office as the new Commissioner of Police (CP), Dimapur, on Thursday, August 7, 2025, following a brief handover ceremony held at the CP’s office, the PRO at the Commissioner’s office said in a press note.

She succeeded Kevithuto Sophie, IPS, who has been promoted and posted as Inspector General of Police (Armed BN/IR) & Inspector General of Police (VG) at Police Headquarters, Kohima.

“I am committed to upholding the rule of law, strengthening public trust, and ensuring the safety and security of all communities across the city, while seeking the cooperation of all,” Aotula said after taking charge.

Career highlights and achievements

Aotula T. Imchen arrives at the Commissionerate with a substantial record of leadership, operational experience and community-focused policing. Her notable achievements include:

  • Governor’s Gold Medal (2023) — Awarded in recognition of distinguished service during her tenure as SP, Mokokchung.
  • Governor’s Gold Medal (2022) — Honoured for exemplary service while serving as SP, Wokha.
  • Zero FIR Pendency Initiative — Led an operation in Wokha that cleared a backlog of pending investigations and achieved a ‘zero FIR pendency’ benchmark for timely case disposal and investigative accountability.
  • Crime reduction and operational leadership — Credited with measurable improvements in policing outcomes in districts under her command through strengthened patrols, targeted intelligence-led operations and community outreach.
  • Advocate for women’s empowerment & community engagement — Regularly engaged with civil society and women’s groups, emphasising access to justice, discipline and community cooperation.

Over the years, Imchen has served in a number of important capacities, including DCP Dimapur, SP Mokokchung, SP Wokha and Commandant of the 7th NAP Battalion, along with several mid-level postings across Nagaland that shaped her operational and administrative expertise.

As she begins her tenure as Commissioner of Police, stakeholders across the Police Commissionerate districts of Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland expect a continued focus on law and order, prompt redressal of public grievances and strengthened police–community relations.
