Dimapur, July 25:
In a significant development for Indian athletics, Mr. Abu Metha has been appointed as the Co-Chairman of the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) Modernisation Committee for the period 2025–2026. The appointment was officially communicated through a letter dated July 22, 2025, by newly elected AFI President Bahadur Singh Sagoo.
The appointment comes following the successful AFI elections held in Chandigarh, where Bahadur Singh Sagoo was unanimously elected as President. In consultation with senior members of the Federation, several committees were constituted to enhance transparency, efficiency, and overall development of Indian athletics.
Acknowledging Mr. Metha’s experience and commitment, the AFI President stated that his contributions will be valuable in strengthening the federation’s efforts to modernize and reform the structure of athletics administration in India.
Mr. Abu Metha, who currently serves as the Advisor to the Chief Minister of Nagaland and is the Secretary-General of the Nagaland Olympic Association, has been actively involved in promoting sports and youth affairs in the region and at the national level.
This appointment marks yet another milestone in his journey as a sports administrator and reinforces Nagaland’s growing presence in the national sports landscape.
