October 24, 2025 — The Department of Food & Civil Supplies (F&CS), Nagaland, has officially transitioned from the earlier NFSA applications to the Smart Public Distribution System (Smart PDS), integrating an Aadhaar-enabled Supply Chain Management module in line with the Government of India’s digital governance policy.
In a press release, the Director of F&CS informed that any system disruption may temporarily affect the normal supply chain and requested citizens for cooperation during the transition period. All Fair Price Shops (FPSs) have been directed to discontinue manual transactions. Henceforth, only online or partial offline transactions through ePoS (Electronic Point of Sale) devices will be recognized for distribution.
Benefits of Smart PDS
The introduction of the Smart Public Distribution System aims to bring transparency, efficiency, and accountability to the food distribution network. Key benefits include:
Curbing leakage and corruption by ensuring Aadhaar-based beneficiary verification.
Real-time monitoring of stock movement and transactions across the supply chain.
Faster and more accurate distribution of essential commodities to genuine beneficiaries.
Improved data management and automated record-keeping for both government and Fair Price Shop dealers.
Enhanced convenience for citizens through digital authentication and transaction receipts.
The Smart PDS marks a major step toward digitizing public welfare services in Nagaland, aligning with the national objective of building a transparent and efficient digital ecosystem for all citizens.
