In a major crackdown against liquor smuggling, Excise personnel at the Khuzama inter-state check gate seized 500 cases of assorted Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) on Wednesday morning.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Excise, Kohima, Venezolu Dawhuo, the liquor consignment was cleverly concealed beneath bags of essential commodities in a truck bearing registration number NL-01AK-1796.

The driver, Rashidul Islam (20), a resident of Goalpara District, Assam, was arrested for violating the Nagaland Liquor Total Prohibition (NLTP) Act, 1989.

Preliminary investigations indicate that the consignment was loaded from Dimapur and was en route to Imphal, Manipur, when it was intercepted by vigilant excise personnel.
