New Delhi, October 16, 2025: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed all States and Union Territories to ensure the removal of the term ‘ORS’ (Oral Rehydration Solution) from food product labels and advertisements.

The directive instructs all food business operators to comply strictly with the labelling and advertising norms under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The FSSAI emphasized that the term ‘ORS’ is a regulated medical formulation, and its use on food or beverage products is misleading to consumers.

State and UT authorities have been asked to monitor and enforce compliance with immediate effect to prevent consumer deception and ensure proper classification between medical and food-grade products.
