Dimapur, Oct. 15: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested the Executive Director and Regional Officer of the National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL), Guwahati, for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹10 lakh from a private individual.
According to a CBI press release, the arrest was made after officials laid a trap on October 14, 2025. The accused officer was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe in exchange for issuing a favourable extension of time (EOT) and completion certificate for a private company involved in the four-laning project of National Highway-37 between Demow and Moran Bypass in Assam.
Following the arrest, the CBI conducted searches at seven office and residential premises linked to the accused across various locations in India. During the raids, cash amounting to ₹2.62 crore was recovered, along with documents revealing ownership of multiple high-value assets — including nine landed properties and twenty apartments reportedly in the name of the officer and his family members.
Officials also recovered documents related to the purchase of high-end vehicles, and verification of the movable and immovable properties of the accused is currently underway.
Both the arrested individuals — the public servant and a private person involved — will be produced before the Court of the Special Judge, CBI Cases, Guwahati.
The case once again highlights the widespread issue of corruption within India’s public infrastructure sector, where bribery and misuse of office continue to undermine transparency, accountability, and public trust.
