Kohima, August 1, 2025: The 24th edition of the Dr. T. Ao Trophy Inter-District Football Championship 2025 commenced with great fanfare at the Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima this evening. The glittering opening ceremony was marked by the hoisting of the tournament flag by Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, who graced the event as the chief guest.

In his address, Chief Minister Rio emphasized the significance of the tournament in fostering unity and sportsmanship among the youth across Nagaland’s districts. He lauded the legacy of the late Dr. T. Ao and said the tournament continues to play a vital role in promoting football and nurturing local talent.

Mr. Rio reaffirmed the state government’s commitment to sports development, highlighting ongoing efforts to enhance sports infrastructure in all districts. “Sports is not just about competition—it’s about discipline, health, and community building,” he stated.

This year, all 17 districts of Nagaland are participating in the tournament. The championship will continue over the next two weeks and culminate with the grand finale on August 15, 2025.
